We’ve got a bar full of magical spirits, and we’ve all got our favourites. Recently, we asked you what your favourite tipple is and which drinks you’d like to learn more about. Our spotlight behind the bar series begins with a staff favourite: Elephant Gin.
Our resident gin expert Hana says “this one is totally different to anything else you’ll find behind the bar! It’s smooth and spicy, and definitely made with the gin & tonic in mind. The sloe gin isn’t as sweet as you might expect, but it’s got a fabulously Christmassy nose!”
Elephant Gin doesn’t just have a wonderful flavour; the company donates a percentage of its profits to African charities, making this gin an ethical investment too. 15% goes to Big Life Foundation and Space for Elephants, two charities focused solely on the conservation of elephants. This gin is made up of 14 botanicals, and they’re not what you’d expect! The classic botanicals include sweet orange peel, cassia bark and juniper, but these are paired with the more unusual additions of pine needles, pimento berries, ginger, elderflower, lavender and fresh apples. This only brings us up to nine botanicals, and it’s the remaining five that give Elephant Gin its distinctive African-inspired flavour: Devil’s Claw, African Wormwood, Lion’s Tail, Buchu Plant and Baobab Fruit. All of this makes for a brilliantly unexpected line-up of ingredients, and the constant curveballs make this a delightfully different gin.
