As you might have noticed from our Out & About page, we’re situated in an absolutely beautiful part of the world! We thought we’d take some time to introduce you to Dolphinholme, our home and your new favourite place to be.
Dolphinholme is just a ten minute drive from Lancaster, and about half an hour from Preston. It’s a little pocket of natural beauty with easy access to two very vibrant cities – the perfect location to spend a night away for a little me-time.
We’re also right on the edge of the spectacular Trough of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). We’ll come back to the history of the place in Part Two, but it’s worth noting that the Trough of Bowland was the route taken by the Pendle Witches to their trial at Lancaster Castle in 1612. Lancaster is a historic city, and you’ll see mention of this event on many plaques around town if you choose to venture out for the day.
Dolphinholme is a very small village, so it’s perfect for those of you wanting a little quiet. There are actually two parts to the village; lower Dolphinholme is situated around the River Wyre and hosts a number of music festivals every year – the most noteworthy being Down By The Riverside and LiveWyre. Walk up the (very steep!) hill and you’ll reach Dolphinholme top, home to the primary school, the old shop, historic St Mark’s Church and just a short walk from The Fleece Inn.
In Part Two, we’ll introduce the history of Dolphinholme and the surrounding areas – stay tuned!
